These brightly-colored creatures are grazers who spend most of their time nibbling coral reef algae with powerful beaks (which resemble fused teeth). As such, these bumpheads have earned themselves the name “parrot heads.”

Hawaii waters are home to various kinds of uhus, from blue-faced uhus with blue fins and faces with white stripes around their eyes to yellowbar uhus that feature yellow and pink lines, but all uhus are colorful; male uhus have vivid green, blue, and purple hues while living about 7 to 8 years before reaching 1 to 4 feet in length depending on their environment and diet.
