HP Pavilion Gaming 15 Review

Whether you’re looking for a new notebook or just want to upgrade from your current machine, the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 could be right for you. This notebook is powerful, reliable, and offers an incredible amount of storage space.

Battery life

Compared to a number of gaming laptops, HP Pavilion Gaming 15 delivers great value for money. It has a powerful processor, sharp display, and upgradeable RAM and storage. The laptop has a solid battery life, but it’s not as long as some of the competition.

HP Pavilion Gaming 15 weighs just over five pounds and measures 14.2 x 10.1 x 0.9 inches. The battery is a 52Wh unit. HP says that it can last up to six hours and 45 minutes in mixed usage.

HP Pavilion Gaming 15 has an attractive design. It’s built from aluminum and features a thin bezel surrounding the 15.6-inch display. The screen has a high pixel density, of 141.

Performance

Powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 4600H (Renoir) APU, the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 (2020) performs well enough to get you through most games. It’s a solid entry-level laptop that’s designed to give you a good mix of performance and upgradeability.

In gaming, the Pavilion Gaming 15 is similar to the Acer Nitro 5 15 (2020). It’s a good gaming laptop that gets the job done. However, it doesn’t quite match the performance of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G GA502 or Dell G5 15.

HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk0046nr is an entry-level laptop that comes with a powerful Intel Core i7-11700H processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU. It also has a decent amount of ports, a fairly portable design, and a long battery life. It weighs just over 5 pounds.

144Hz refresh rate

Buying a laptop with a 144Hz refresh rate can cost you a pretty penny, but it’s worth the money if you like to play PC games. Generally, you’ll find them priced at around $1000 during sale periods. If you’re not in the market for a new laptop, you might be better off opting for a 60Hz model instead.

The best way to know if a refresh rate is worth your money is to figure out what games you’re going to play. If you’re looking to play League of Legends, you’ll need a laptop with a high refresh rate. If you’re playing MOBA games, a 144Hz display will improve your cursor precision. It will also help you aim better in FPS games.

IPS panel (BOE080D)

Unlike its predecessor, the HP Pavilion Gaming 15’s IPS panel isn’t just a fancy name for a matte display. It’s a good example of the IPS category’s strengths, including its high brightness level, excellent color accuracy, and stable viewing angles. However, despite the IPS’ good score, there are a few shortcomings in its performance.

For starters, the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 IPS panel (BOE080D) isn’t as wide-screen as its predecessor, which is unfortunate because it lacks a matte display. This can make it a bit hard to read, especially if you have your nose in a book.

Speakers

Getting the best sound from HP Pavilion Gaming 15 requires some basic tools. To get started, make sure your computer has a headphone jack and plug your headphones in. Then plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.

If your laptop does not have a headphone jack, you can use the speaker port on the back of the monitor. The port is color coded and marked with a three-segmented plug. The plug supports a headphone and a microphone. If you have a Compaq desktop computer, it has a four-segmented plug.

IPS panel covers just 65 percent of the sRGB color gamut

Unlike many gaming laptops on the market, HP’s Gaming Pavilion is not designed to be a hammer and sickle, and it can be difficult to get the most from a matte display. While the screen is relatively bright, the black value is too high to achieve a high contrast ratio. On the plus side, the screen does display the gizmo of the day, and the panel is WLED-backlit to help minimize unwanted glare.

The HP Pavilion Gaming 15 isn’t a slouch when it comes to performance, and it’s capable of delivering the frame rates necessary for a wide variety of modern triple-A titles. The GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q GPU is capable of running at 144 Hz. The screen is relatively luminous, averaging 322 nits, but does suffer from some color distortions at an acute viewing angle.

Screen coverage

Buying an HP Pavilion Gaming 15 screen protector is an easy and hassle-free way to protect your screen. The screen protector will safeguard your screen against scratches and dust. It will also protect your screen from glare. Its sleek, glossy surface will enhance the clarity of your screen and will provide full visibility.

You’ll also find that this HP Pavilion Gaming 15 screen protector has an anti-spy feature that will keep the screen contents private. Its two-way privacy design will allow you to work and play in privacy. This screen protector also features a tempered glass surface that will protect your screen from scratches.
