Music Release Dates On Fridays Starting This Summer
February 26th, 2015 | by Michael Fox
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry has announced that music albums will now be released around the world on Fridays. This change will start in the summer.
Albums have normally been released on Tuesdays in North America and Mondays in Europe. The change to having albums released on Fridays all around the world is being used as a means of combating music piracy.
Some North American groups were opposed to the move. The Department of Record Stores stated that Tuesday releases around the world would be more cost-effective. The American Association of Independent Music also argued that it will be harder for smaller labels to thrive if the release date is changed.
