Kickstarter Used To Support Funding For New TLC Album
January 26th, 2015 | by Michael Fox
A new record was set on Kickstarter as more than $200,000 has been raised on the production of a musical album. The famed hip hop group TLC had a Kickstarter goal of $150,000 and was able to raise that money and then more with about four weeks to go in the campaign.
The Kickstarter campaign was supported by thousands of fans of the group. These include many other figures in the music world like Katy Perry, Bette Midler, Russell Simmons and Dev Hynes.
TLC went to Kickstarter as a means of ensuring that the process of recording what will be their final album would be done on their own terms and with the help of their fans instead of record labels. This last album is the first one that the group has released since the death of fellow member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in 2002.
