Kickstarter Reaches $2 Billion in Pledges
November 7th, 2015 | by Michael Fox
Kickstarter has announced that it has received more than $2 billion in money pledged towards projects hosted on the site. It took about nineteen months for the site to get from $1 billion to $2 billion, a dramatic reduction from the five years it took for Kickstarter to get the first billion since it was formed in 2009.
Kickstarter released information on the pledges that it has earned over all this time. The site says that it received more pledges for games, tech items and design projects than anything else. Also, nine new projects are being listed per hour on average.
It also says that 49 people have supported more than a thousand different Kickstarter projects each. Overall, 9.5 million people have participated in pledges to various projects. Nearly 1.7 million of them donated about $150 million to projects that were not going to give them any particular rewards for their support.
