Fifty Shades of Grey Coming To IMAX
February 9th, 2015 | by Michael Fox
The upcoming movie Fifty Shades of Grey will be airing on 75 IMAX screens around the United States. IMAX Entertainment and Universal-Focus announced this plan to release the film on these screens only days before its February 13 release.
This comes amid recent demand for tickets for the film. The online ticket site Fandango has stated that the film is the fastest-selling R-rated film in the site’s history.
IMAX tickets usually cost about $6 or more per ticket on average. This may boost the $60 million projections for the film’s gross on its opening weekend.
A majority of IMAX screens at typical movie theaters are about 33 feet high and 60 feet long on average, a size much larger than the 19×42 foot size of a typical movie screen. Many traditional IMAX screens at museums and and amusement centers are about 72×53 feet in size.
