Californians felt a tremor last week, but it was nothing like what hit Chile Tuesday night. An 8.2 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Chile and there have been five deaths reported so far.
The earthquake struck off the coast at a depth of 12.5 miles and around 62 miles northwest of Iquique. Five deaths have been reported along with three injuries and the Interior Minister also said that around 300 prisoners have escaped from Iquique after the earthquake.
Chili is no stranger to earthquake or Tsunami’s as the 8.8 magnitude 2010 quake killed close to 500 people. That pales in comparison the strongest earthquake ever recorded (9.5) which also struck Chili back in 1960.
